We are encountering an Event ID 1616 Error Code 0x80070643 when attempting to
add the “Network Policy and Access Services role on a Server 2008 Standard
domain controller that at one time had the role installed and later removed.
Is there a known solution for this problem? Here is what information we have
available so far:

From the Setup Event:

Log Name: Setup
Source: Server Manager
Event ID: 1616
Level: Error
User: <domain/user>
OpCode: Info

Install failed.

Roles: Network Policy and Access Services

Error: Attempt to install Network Policy Server failed with error code
0x80070643. Fatal error during installation

The following role services were not installed: Network Policy Server

Unfortunately no. We ended up having to rebuild our server for other reasons,
which in turn took care of this problem as well.
